Cllr PJ Reilly elected Cathaoirleach

Councillor PJ Reilly has been elected Cathaoirleach of Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly at the Assembly’s Annual General Meeting on Friday 7th July.

Councillor Reilly, Fianna Fáil Party, was appointed by Longford County Council to the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly when it was established in 2015.

This followed his election as a member of Longford County Council representing Granard area in 2014. Prior to that he served as Mayor of Granard Town Council from 2011-2012. He was also the chairman of the Abbeylara New Pastoral Council, a Directing Member of the Granard Area Action Committee and a member of Longford County Council SPC Housing Committee and HSE Health Forum for the Dublin/Mid Leinster Area. He is one of two Councillors representing Longford County Council on the Assembly. Councillor Reilly was educated at St. Bernard’s National School Abbeylara and Ardscoil Phadraig Granard.

Speaking at the AGM, the newly-elected Cathaoirleach thanked all the Members for his unanimous election and underlined the importance of the work of all the councillors on the Assembly. He is delighted to take up the position and is looking forward to working with the Assembly’s Director and the rest of the staff.

Councillor Catherine Fitzgerald was also elected Leas Cathaoirleach at the meeting. Councillor Fitzgerald, also of Fianna Fáil, is a member of Laois County Council and has too been a member of the Assembly since its establishment.
