The Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly (EMRA) held its first Next2Met stakeholder meeting on December 2nd  2019 . The meeting brought together the Broadband Officers of the Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath County Councils with the EMRA project team, and focused on the Officers’ work creating Local Digital Strategies. The Broadband Officers described their work in improving digital connectivity in their counties, and how this can be enabled through blending EU and national funds to create digital hubs within communities.

Given limited resources, the Officers targeted public Wi-Fi in key locations, such as tourist attractions, and on key green infrastructure and waterways routes.

The Officers have also begun exploring how digital analytics can locate hotspots for tourists and indicate how tourists travel through their counties.
